First Response Group (FRG) is working with Education for Africa, a non-profit organization registered in the UK, to promote education among the marginalised and socially excluded communities in Kenya, Tanzania and Malawi.

Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest rates of education exclusion in the world. Over one-fifth of children between the ages of  6 and 11 are out of school, followed by one-third between the ages of 12 and 14 (source: UNESCO).

Lack of food among marginalised communities makes it difficult for children to regularly attend school as often parents are forced to choose between sending a child to school or keeping them home to help with chores to ensure they get a meal at the end of the day.

Since January FRG have been sponsoring the School Feeding Progamme at Isiolo Children’s Home in Isiolo County, Kenya. The school was established in 2013 as Primary School with an aim of helping the orphans and the vulnerable children from the local community and its surrounding areas. The school expanded in 2017 to allow the children to proceed to secondary school level.

The School Feeding Programme supports 100 orphans and most vulnerable children in the primary age group,  offering 3 balanced meals a day.  School Feeding Progammes act as an incentive for parents to enroll and keep children in school and better nutrition aids concentration, allowing the children to learn and perform better, expanding their educational opportunities.
