Fencing is a boundary system for commercial businesses and their associated sites, and is part of a security solution designed to deter and delay intruders. And PIDS are an effective way to improve that security. PIDS stands for Perimeter Intruder Detection System and the most common systems are sensors attached to fence fabric or fence posts, which detect vibrations and hence can alert a business to a potential intruder. These have proven to be an excellent addition to the security technology available to commercial businesses. However, M-PIDS have taken this security solution one step further and use cutting edge wireless detection technology to provide effective security solutions for temporary or remote locations.

What are M-PIDS?

M-PIDS are essentially mobile perimeter intruder detection systems, and instead of being static systems which are fence-mounted for boundary surveillance, they can be moved around and suitably positioned to provide complete site coverage and monitoring.

The DetectPlus M-PIDS unit supplied by First Response Group consists of four HD-quality detector cameras, which have a 70m diameter range with omni-directional coverage. So, one unit positioned in the centre of an open space, can survey 70m in all directions. The cameras use a passive infrared sensor to monitor areas for thermal signatures, which is essentially the presence of a human body, i.e. an intruder. If this occurs, an alarm triggers the activation of a camera and the scene is immediately captured. This alarm sends alerts to a remote monitoring station, as well as activating lights or an audible alarm.

How does M-PIDS benefit security?

M-PIDS is ideal for use in vacant properties, open sites and event spaces, remote locations, infrastructure projects and construction sites, particularly because it can be re-positioned and moved temporarily, to suit a changing environment. The main security benefits include:

  1. Early detection – M-PIDS gives security teams critical early warning of a possible intruder on a site, records any intrusion and enables more reaction time if physical intervention is required.
  2. Reduces human error – The hi-tec sensors are constantly operating and hence provide 24/7 vigilance, while AI analytics used by the system provides false alarm filtering, so it doesn’t activate when there is movement from animals or movement caused by high winds.
  3. Reduce weak spots in security – The positioning of the M-PIDS unit means you can maximise surveillance to reduce blind spots, or can provide extra surveillance for high risk areas such as entrance gates or storage and warehouse areas.
  4. Remote monitoring – The M-PIDS system is linked to the First Response Group’s central monitoring station, and we can manage the security reaction upon any intruder detection. This provides 24/7 site coverage, which is particularly useful for vacant properties or remote locations.
  5. Control – With the M-PIDS system you have total control over your site security. You can choose how the system alerts you and how you manage the reaction, such as automatically activating alarms/lights or dispatching security officers. M-PIDS can be used as a hybrid security system working alongside your on-site CCTV technology and any manned security officers or mobile security officers you use. The system is easily scalable, which means you can add or remove units as necessary, i.e. when you identify new risks or when the site characteristics change, such as on a construction site. The unit also includes tamper-proof features and strobe-lighting deterrents, and is solar-powered with a battery back-up system, so you know that even in remote locations with limited power, the system is always going to be operational and reliable.
