First Response Group, was honoured with a ‘highly commended’ accolade in the mid-sized business of the year category at the prestigious Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards 2024, sponsored by Blick Rothenberg. Judges recognised FRG’s impressive growth, dedication to employee welfare, and innovative approach to security and facilities management.

This recognition comes during a year of remarkable achievements for First Response Group, having secured high profile contracts with the likes of English Heritage, a charity that manages more than 400 historic monuments, buildings and places. It has also shown exceptional commitment to innovation, with significant investments in mobile security towers, cutting-edge perimeter detection systems, and tech-driven solutions that enhance productivity, transparency, and staff safety.

Following a strategic restructuring in 2023/24 and focused investments in expanding its team and advancing technology, the company is well-positioned for continued growth, with ambitious targets to reach £150M in revenue by 2030.

Hosted by British radio and TV presenter Anita Rani, the event brought together leaders from across sectors, with Michelin-star chef Tom Kerridge and Rani adding their own touch of star power as they were joined by an audience of Britain’s top business minds and innovators, all gathered to recognise the resilience, ingenuity, and impact of UK businesses.

Founded in 2007 by Jamal Tahlil and Edgar Chibaka, First Response Group has grown from humble beginnings in a small office above a Leeds internet café into a thriving business with over 700 employees.

Driven by its core values, empowerment, passion, integrity, and community, the business is committed to creating a safer, more inclusive working environment for its employees and the communities it serves.

As a Living Wage Foundation Recognised Service Provider and the first security company in the UK to earn Inclusive Employers Standard accreditation, First Response Group has also set industry benchmarks for social responsibility and diversity.

Simon Alderson, chief executive at First Response Group, said: “Our journey has been about more than business growth, it’s also been about making a positive impact on our industry, our employees and our clients. Receiving the ‘highly commended’ award at the British Business Excellence Awards is an honour that reflects the hard work of our entire team.

“As we continue to expand and innovate, this recognition fuels our mission to lead the way in setting new standards for excellence and responsibility within the security and facilities management sectors.”
